Ickle Pickles awarded WightAID’s grant
Fundraising
Nursery Nurse Cat Rushworth attended a cheque presentation to receive a generous donation of £2,771.14 to purchase two specialist recliner chairs for the neonatal special care unit at St Mary's Hospital on the Isle of Wight.
WightAID's Chairman, Geoff said: “It was great to support a charity that helps tiny children, as well as sports, school and community groups. Only with the support of the Island’s businesses and individuals can we continue to donate to good causes such as these. Please spread the word and give generously.”
Cat Rushworth from St Mary’s neonatal unit explained how the unit works and spoke about the difference this grant will make to neonatal families. Tiny babies need a lot of cuddles and skin-to-skin or kangaroo care. Did you know that Kangaroo Care supports breastmilk production and can be a real lifesaver when breastfeeding? A special reclining chair can impact the lives of many premature or sick babies and their parents, making bonding much easier.
New parents shared with Ickle Pickles that a “reclining chair has allowed me to feel so much closer to my baby even though she has tubes attached, I can smell and cuddle her and hold her hand.”
Thanks to WightAID’s generous support, Ickle Pickles can now purchase two vital reclining chairs for St Mary’s Hospital’s neonatal unit.
