World Prematurity Day 2022

To mark World Prematurity Day, we have partnered with Ocura Healthcare Furniture to provide a special reclining chair to Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital's neonatal unit and to Queen Charlotte's and St Mary's neonatal units during November. If you want to help other parents and babies, please support our appeal.

The Ocura Mauro reclining chair is great for Kangaroo Care. Research shows that premature babies develop faster and better if they can lie a few hours a day on the chest of their father or mother. Direct skin-to-skin contact is beneficent for both carers and premature babies. It provides important first cuddles, and babies can recognise the heartbeat, and relax.

These chairs allow parents to have this critical skin-to-skin time with their new babies, helping to accelerate bonding, calming and milk production.

We are running this appeal throughout World Prematurity Awareness Month to provide three much-needed reclining chairs to Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital. At Queen Charlotte's and St Mary's neonatal units, the overall need is for 30 chairs at a total cost of £45,000. Help us support future neonatal mums and dads by making a donation to keep this chair in the units permanently.
