Can you imagine spending the first Christmas Day with your new baby in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in hospital? Well, that is the reality for at least some of the 90,000 babies born prematurely in the UK each year. So, as we approach Christmas and think about giving to those people who are not as fortunate as us, Mama Bamboo wants to ask our customers to consider giving, through their Give Another Mother scheme, to those parents who are not having the first Christmas that they imagined.

Mama Bamboo’s Give Another Mother scheme allows you to donate money towards nappies for the five NICU units that they support through a partnership with Ickle Pickles. Mama Bamboo matches every pound donated and sends much-needed nappies and wipes for use by parents with premature and sick babies on the NICU’s. This partnership, in conjunction with additional Mama Bamboo nappy donations to the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity, has resulted in over 50,000 sustainable bamboo nappies being donated, supporting nearly 1500 families.

Claire Hart, Neonatal Matron at Barnet Hospital’s Starlight Neonatal Unit introduced baby Luca who was born early at 31+6 weeks as “a very chilled-out little man”. His mum says “Luca was delivered by an emergency c-section and it all happened in a hurry. The nappies were really appreciated as we were not prepared for him to be born so early. They were a little big to begin with but he is putting on weight and filling them nicely now!”

Ashleigh, another mum of baby Cason who was born at 30 weeks, weighing 3.1lbs at Croydon Hospital’s neonatal unit comments “These Mama Bamboo nappies are great, easy to use and good quality. Thank you to Mama Bamboo and Ickle Pickles for this wonderful and much-needed gift.”

Donations of these nappies make the first few stressful days in NICU units just a little easier on parents who have often been thrust into parenthood earlier than planned with preemie babies or who have not had time to think about some basics whilst caring for their sick children. Often babies in NICU are also very small so finding nappies which are small enough to fit as well as being kind to the baby’s delicate skin can fall down the list of things to do. Our specially designed Size 0 nappies are extra small for tiny babies but also super soft for their sensitive skin.

So with all the gifting we do at Christmas how about thinking of gifting to another Mother and making someone’s festive season that little bit easier, just pop a donation in your basket when checking out at www.mamabamboo.com and we will ensure your donation gets turned into useful nappies for those most in need.

But that’s not all, as part of Mama Bamboo’s support of the Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity they will also be sending their whole team to run the Santa In the City event on Wednesday 4th December. Their wonderful team will walk and jog around London dressed as Santas to spread some festive cheer and raise money for sick and premature babies.

Lend your support to Mama Bamboo and keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on this amazing Christmas Challenge.
