We are very excited to be working with the wonderful Neonatal team at Homerton hospital and would encourage anyone interested in raising funds through us for the Neonatal unit to get in touch and discuss how you can get involved - the feeling of having made a tangible difference is simply incredible and very rewarding!

The progress of the Appeal is shown below.

The team at Homerton have requested a Lifestart Resuscitaire Unit which allows the resuscitaire (the equipment used to stabilise the baby after birth) to be brought right up to where the baby is delivered.
This means that while a baby is being stabilised or resuscitated, they can remain attached to the placenta. This allows blood to circulate from the placenta to the baby, thereby topping up the baby’s store of blood.
For babies who are small, or who have experienced some difficulty in being born, there is often a rush to ensure that oxygen delivery and temperature stabilisation start as soon as possible after birth. This previously meant early separation from the placenta, but with the
LifeStart™, stabilisation and important placental transfusion can both be delivered. Also, it is used close to mother and partner, allowing for better communication during those first few stressful post birth moments.

The team have the team have also a pressing need for an updated Bayley assessment toolkit which is essential for long term follow-up and development assessment of high risk babies after they get discharged home. This extra piece of equipment would mean that more babies can get thorough, standardised assessments so that any delays can be picked up sooner and targeted interventions start earlier.

Level 3 unit: Deliveries of babies less than 27 weeks & in need of intensive care.
