Baby Transport Pod donated to Embrace Transport Team
Donations
Ickle Pickles are delighted to announce that a Baby Transport Pod has been donated to the Embrace Transport Service Team thanks to our generous donors.
The Embrace Transport Service is a highly specialist, round-the-clock transport service for critically ill babies and children in Yorkshire and Humberside. The Ickle Pickles Children’s Charity has been working with the team since early 2022 and already successfully fundraised for baby nests. They recently requested funds to purchase a Baby Transport Pod to safely move babies from one hospital to another.
These specialist pods can be secured to any trolley or transport stretcher and therefore can be used in any road, fixed wing or rotary aircraft. They plan to use the Baby Pod in all three. Even though a Baby Pod is lightweight compared to an incubator, it can only be used for babies between 2-8kg who can maintain their own temperature as it does not have a heating element.
The pod has already been put to good use and it is estimated that around 1,000 babies will be transported using the Baby Pod each year.
Ickle Pickles are proud to champion the importance of Neonatal Transport Teams in the neonatal treatment system. They play a vitally important role in transporting the sickest and tiniest babies between neonatal units, usually to receive more specialised treatment in a higher-category neonatal unit.
Because babies are treated in neonatal units for long periods of time, a Transport Team’s short but vital role can be overlooked when families consider donating or fundraising once their child has returned home. We are striving to address that inconsistency and currently support and collaborate with three Transport Teams.
