A Story for Baby Loss Awareness Week

Baby loss

Our amazing and precious son Koby was born prematurely at 25 weeks on the 2nd of June 2018 weighing just 705g.

He was immediately whisked away to Neonatal Intensive Care in an incubator as he needed support to keep him alive. I was not able to see him till the following day.

I’ll never forget the first time I saw Koby, he was so tiny and fragile. I was in shock and so frightened of what was happening.

Our son had come into the world having to fight for survival. Little did we know this little person was a fighter and was going to show us just how strong he was.

He spent all his life in hospital, 321 days in NICU and then 31 days in Paediatrics ICU at King’s College Hospital London. Koby was cared for by an array of medical staff who soon became like family and a huge part of Koby's Journey.

During his life, there were many challenges, ups and downs, steps forward and steps back but he was one tough cookie and overcame so much.

He gave everything he had and fought hard for his life.

His strength and willpower to never give up amazed us all.

Heartbreakingly, just two weeks before his first birthday on the 18th of May 2019 Koby passed away. Throughout it all he remained so brave, so strong, determined and courageous.

Being Koby’s mum was the best. I will treasure every moment that we had together: loving and caring for him, holding him, our story times and play times; just being together; those eyes; the way he smiled and made me smile; the way he squeezed my fingers and held my hand, the way he made me feel whole and so much more.

My heart is broken.

Koby was inspirational, a warrior and we are so proud of him.

Our wonderful son is loved beyond words and he is missed so much.
